Last Wednesday evening saw the first mid week spin of the year take place. A large group left the village at 7pm and headed for Glanmire. From there it was on to Brooklodge, out the New Line to Pigeon Hill with a gentle climb to Broderick's Cross. The group turned left and headed for the village, all back well before dusk with 30km completed. It is always great to get a blow out mid week, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the spin. Next Wednesday night, 17th April sees the return of the club TT. This is a 15km out and back course, from the national school to Killydonoghue. This is suitable for all levels of cyclists, and new members are very welcome.
Saturday saw two groups leave the village at 8am to tackle a 100km loop. Dermot Brosnan led the novices, with Tom O'Sullivan leading the pros. The route headed north through Fermoy and Kilworth, before climbing to Mountain Barracks. Conditions on the road to Araglin were tough with a very strong head wind. The climb to Ballysaggart was crested, and cyclists were delighted with the reprieve on the descent into Lismore. There was a stop in Lismore to refuel, before pedalling onto Tallow. The wind was now helping the gang on the climb to Coolagowan. Unfortunately, some of the most experienced cyclists in the club forgot to check the route, and ended up in Fermoy. The spin back to the village was completed wit the aid off Peter Power who came to the rescue of the lost cyclists.
The Sunday cycle was canceled due to the yellow weather warning in place.
Club cycles continue each Saturday and Sunday. The club is always delighted to welcome new members. On Sunday mornings at 9am, all levels of cyclists are catered for, with the group split into 3 levels. New members are very welcome to turn up and cycle provided they have a racing bike, a helmet, and are over 18.
