There was two groups hit the road last Saturday morning. Martin Buckley led the time trial group from Carrigtwohill. They headed for Youghal where they turned and climbed for Tallow. There was a short stop in Tallow, before climbing to Murley's Cross. From there the group descended rapidly to Dungourney where there were some fans out to cheer on the lads. There was not let up in the intensity as the return to Carrigtwohill was completed in quick time. Donal led a group from the village west towards Blarney, and on towards Dripsey. The wonderful scent of coffee as the group approached Griffin's Garden Centre was enough to ramp up the speed. Despite club secretary Brian Atkinson doing trojan work all morning, there was no mercy shown as he was unceremoniously dropped out the back of the group. Brian was heard muttering at the coffee stop that revenge will be sweet and sharp.
Sunday saw a big group depart the village in foggy conditions. Barry Looney led the beginners group and Donal led the elite group. Both groups headed for Midleton via Ballincurrig and Lisgoold. Out of nowhere, Peter Power appeared on the road as the group headed out of Midleton. Peter did his best Scarlet Pimpernel impression as he ratcheted up the speed before disappearing again in Carrigtwohill. Such was Peter's impressive display of power and pace, some members were convinced that he must have taken the train down to Midleton. After coffee in Carrigtwohill, the group returned back to the village at a leisurely pace.
It is with regret that we must report that there was consternation at turbo training last Thursday .Nigel was in the hot set and the session began in a whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm. However, as the session neared the end, and requests for Tina Turner fell on deaf ears, there was growing frustration among members. The tension in the hall was palpable as Nigel refused point blank to give Proud Mary a blast. The turbo session finished to a chorus of boos and whistles. Nigel had to be escorted from the hall for his own safety. Donal gave Nigel a one week suspension for his inexcusable carry on. Nigel has vowed to return in two weeks time better and bolder than ever for what promises to be an epic session. The sessions will continue in the First Fruits Arts Centre in Watergrasshill on Thursday evenings, commencing at 7.30pm. Members and non members are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to attend simply needs to bring a turbo trainer, mat, and a towel.
