Saturday saw a small, but very talented group head for Mountain Barracks and Mitchelstown. Not having had enough climbing, the lads decided to come back via Ballyhooly over the middle climb. Saturday also saw work commence on the cyclo cross course at Ballindenisk. Brendan Coakley had two good reasons that he couldn't make it, so Pat McHugh led the way in setting out the course. It promises to be a tough and technical course, in an idyllic setting. The Hillcross will take place at Ballindenisk Watergrasshill on the 16th December 2018.
The Sunday spin headed to Whites Cross and on to Glanmire for a coffee stop. We were blessed with good weather again which made the 45kms fly by. Sunday also saw a number of cyclists head to Glenville, for the Watergrasshill AC promoted Great Glenville Run. The cyclists helped to marshall around the 4 mile route. Martin O'Riordan and Peter Curtin pinned on the numbers and took to the start line for the race. The lads completed the course in very respectable times. The event was superbly run and was a credit to everybody involved.
Cycling on the karting track at Adventurepark Watergrasshill continued last Tuesday night. This is a great initiative and will run for the next number of weeks. The hour long cycle is proving very popular with members, and allows for safe cycling under lights. Last Tuesday night saw members get their winter gear order. Mike Horgan once again did excellent work liaising with our gear supplier, Velo Revolution. The new gear will ensure members look good on the road and are protected from the elements.
Next Saturday sees Marymount hold their annual Christmas Cracker Cycle. This is a very worthy event, and is always well attended by club members. The cycle departs Curaheen, with registration on the morning from 8.30am. Nigel Carroll is busy finalising the Spintahon Event which will take place from 8.00am to 10.00pm on Saturday 8th December at Ross's Centra in Watergrasshill. All proceeds will be donated to Cork Penny Dinners. Anybody looking to cycle for an hour, or who wishes to make a donation should contact Nigel.
Club cycles continue on Saturday and Sundays. Details will be posted on club Facebook page. The club is always delighted to welcome new members. On Sunday mornings at 9am, all levels of cyclists are catered for, with the group split into 3 levels. New members are very welcome to turn up and cycle provided they have a racing bike, a helmet, and are over 18.
